Family Life Skills
Access provides residential, school or daycare-based, and community-based services to children who have developmental disabilities, mental illness, and other related conditions. We support each person's right to lead a dignified independent life. All services provided by Access are focused on this important commitment.
Our Behavior Management Services program is unique because it is the only free-of-charge and timely service available in the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area that provides one-to-one behavior management for children in any setting.
Our goal is to help children with severe behavioral problems learn to follow rules and to cooperate with others by providing parents and the child's caregivers with the tools to successfully decrease difficult behavior and increase appropriate behavior
The desired outcome is for the children to become successful and more cooperative at home, in school and/or daycare, thus allowing the child to remain in the setting in which he/she previously struggled.
Services Offered:
- Child Care Support Services
- Children's Therapeutic Support Services
- In-home Behavior Support
- Rule 79 Case Management
Ongoing Support: Providing ongoing support to parents and caregivers is an important component of the child's behavior management plan. Access offers training and resources to both parents and caregivers.
Access also offers a number of special services and programs to enhance the lives of our clients. Some of them include:
Camping Connections: Interested in enrolling your child in a camping experience? Our case coordinators will help you find the perfect fit from a number of camps in the Minnesota - North Dakota area that cater specifically to children who have special needs.
Social Skills Class for Kids: Offered to Access clients who are in grades two through eight, this one-hour class is held during the summer months for a six week period. Taught by Access coordinators, it gives kids a chance to socialize with other children, gain new friendships, and learn strategies for making and keeping friends.
YMCA: Access staff will help clients apply for scholarships to receive membership to the FM Family YMCA. At the Y they can participate in a number of health-related fun activities. Access also has an agency membership card that can be checked out for use by our clients for one-time or occasional trips to the YMCA.
Access also has agency passes available to checkout to visit the Red River Zoo, Children's Museum at Yunker Farm, and MSUM Athletics events. In addition Access utilizes community resources to obtain tickets for community events such as FM Community Theatre productions, concerts, RedHawks games, and the Shrine Circus.
